Out of the entire year, the 4th of July is definitely one celebration that truly encourages every American to go all out, and the citizens of New York are no different. From parades and firework displays to tons of fun family-friendly activities vying for the top spot, you’ll probably want to go for all of it. However, it’s always best to take it easy and have fun without tiring yourself out, so we’ve taken the liberty of listing down the top events to look forward to in the bustling city of New York:

 

Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks @ East River

For the largest display of fireworks in the U.S., there’s nothing bigger and more spectacular than Macy’s fireworks.

 

Things to Look Forward to:

  • The massive fireworks display from several locations (starts at around 9:25 p.m.)
  • Music performances by several notable artists, including Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton

Note: There are several locations and restaurants that provide a great vantage point for viewing the fireworks. However, you can also watch a live broadcast of the event on TV if you don’t intend to mingle with the crowd.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest @ Coney Island

Although eating contests can be found throughout the year, Nathan’s epic Hot Dog Eating Contest is on another level, having just celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.

 

Things to Look Forward to:

  • A live competitive snack-down (women’s at 11 a.m. and men’s at 12:30 p.m.)
  • Musical and dance performances (starts at 10 a.m.)

Note: Even if you’re not joining as a contestant, there’s nothing more riveting than cheering down the most talented gluttons as they race to eat the most hot dogs in 10 minutes!

Fireworks Cruise @ East River

You don’t have to get your feet wet in order to enjoy a relaxing cruise down the East River. For more fun, food, and festivities this 4th of July, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

  • Unobstructed view of fireworks shows
  • Indoor and outdoor viewing decks

  • Live entertainment and boardwalk games
  • Amusement park rides

Ready for a night of dancing to the Mambo Legends Orchestra? It’s time to get your dancing shoes on because there’s plenty of adrenaline sizzling in the air!

  • Live mambo music (starts at 7:30 p.m.)
