Get what you want from a business dinner: 8 Tips

Posted on: April 30th, 2014 by admin

Business dinner

The art of wining and dining potential clients is probably as old as business itself. It’s a critical part of ensuring that your business grows and seals the deals it needs to. That’s why this week’s post brings you the 8 most important aspects of getting a business dinner right.

1.              Choice of restaurant

To ensure that you don’t fail before you start, choose a restaurant that you know, trust and has a great reputation. What you’re looking for above all is great service. You should also not overlook any diet requirements that your guest may have.

2.              Chose the right time

It goes without saying that you need to find a mutually suitable time for dinner. Try and think wider here to ensure that you don’t clash with a sporting event. Never schedule for a Friday.

3.              Sort payment out before you sit down

As the meal closes and you move close to closing the deal the last thing you should be worrying about is having to settle up. Make sure you speak to the restaurant about payment in advance and don’t forget the tip.

4.              Be there early

You need to be there early so that you can greet your guest and so that you can ensure the staff know who you are.

5.              Build a great rapport with the staff

Let’s be honest, poor service can ruin the chances of success of your business dinner. This happens for a number of reasons. If you paid attention to point 1, it will not have happened because it’s a place with bad service. It might happen because you annoy your waiting staff. Try and build a rapport, perhaps while you’re there before your guest, to ensure that this does not happen.

6.              Don’t go for a hard sell

Nothing will turn off potential clients quicker than the hard sell. Take some time to enjoy some small talk and then wait until the moment is right to move on to the topic at hand.

7.              Get the small things right

Table manners matter at these sorts of events, as does etiquette. While avoiding too old fashioned make sure you are immaculate in your manners.

8.              Win before you begin

You can make a massive win with your client before they’ve even met you by ensuring that a quality sedan service picks them up and drops them off. This is a particularly good idea if alcohol is concerned.
