The Guide to Making Your New Year Resolutions a Success

Posted on: January 3rd, 2018 by MTC Limousine

It’s a new year and most of us would like to start afresh and do even better than the year before. Other than gathering up our willpower for the changes to come, we do need to know how else to keep to our resolutions. With the proper methods, we can all achieve our goals with a minimum of fuss and pain.

Keep Your Goals Simple

It’s a new year, and most of us are excited to turn our lives around for the better. If there’s one thing that you want to do to ensure that you meet your new year resolutions, it’s going to be keeping your goals as simple as possible. There’s bound to be a few things you want to achieve this year and it’s alright to aim for it all. At the end of the day though, what you really want is to ensure that the most important goals are met. What this means is that top priority should be given to a maximum of one or two goals and every other goal met is a bonus.

Divide into Bite-Sized Portions

Projects can be overwhelming when seen as a whole, and the same can be said for our resolutions. One way to ensure success is to break down a goal into manageable chunks. Get the big picture down clearly at the start. After that, set portions of the goal to achieve during a certain period. If your goal is to lose weight, set a monthly, weekly and even daily goal for yourself to ensure that you’re on track. This method also helps us to realize if we’re actually following through on our new year’s resolutions or falling behind.

Write Your Plans Down

Having an initial plan in your head is a good start, but it’s only the start. In order for you to concretely plan your new year’s resolutions, it makes sense to make specific notes of your goals. This can range from writing it all down somewhere to finding an app that helps you to monitor your resolutions. When we have a physical reminder, we are less likely to forget our resolutions. This also means that we are more likely to stick to them and also feel motivated with each milestone achieved.

Set Realistic Goals

Nothing is perfect. If you go ahead with only the thought of success, you’re probably just fooling yourself. There’s bound to be some hiccups along the way, and it will definitely do you good to prepare for them. In other words, be realistic. Set a backup or alternate plan in case anything doesn’t go the way you foresee. With that, you won’t have to start from square one again and you’ll also progress through your resolutions a lot smoother and faster.

Reward Yourself from Time to Time

Any achievement deserves a reward, so do remember to treat yourself occasionally. Of course, treating yourself does not equal pampering yourself for everything. Set milestones to achieve and the rewards that go along with them. This is a good way to motivate ourselves (especially during harder times). Just make sure not to overly reward yourself that you become numb to it all.
