New York Tri-State Halloween Adventures

  • Sleepy Hollow – Of course, no Halloween would be complete without a trip to Sleepy Hollow. Used in movies, books, songs, and television shows, Sleepy Hollow, New York, embraces the Halloween holiday. Just a few examples of the things waiting for you in Sleepy Hollow include Gothic mansions, farmers markets, parades, street fairs, haunted hayrides, and blazing pumpkins. However, the one thing everyone looks forward to is seeing the “Headless Horseman” for which Sleepy Hollow is best known.
  • Croton-on-Hudson – You should also consider Croton-on-Hudson, where the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze occurs. This event is so huge that it ranks as one of the most electrifying, an event that tens of thousands of people come to see. For 30 nights, over 7,000 hand-carved pumpkins are illuminated and on display. However, the pumpkins are not the only attraction. There is also a massive collection of shrunken little monsters, ground snakes, and a huge spider web. All this against a backdrop of scary music, professional lighting, and sound effects is enough to make anyone have nightmares.
  • Jay Ghoul’s House of Curiosities – In Tarrytown, this is the place to go for Halloween. This disenchanted castle is quite the sight to see and home to Dracula, Hogwarts Wizards, Henry VII, Maleficent, and, of course, the Wicked Witch. You will enjoy a 30-minute performance that covers the basement and first floor of the Lyndhurst mansion.
  • Irving’s Legend – At the Old Dutch Church, Jonathan Kruk, master storyteller, puts on a dramatic performance of the classic tale of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Throughout the 45-minute story, live organ music plays in the background coupled with low lighting.
  • Cemetery Tour – You can even take a tour through the most famous of all Sleepy Hollow cemeteries where author Washington Irving rests. There, you can also enter the crypt of vampire Barnabas Collins or visit the graves of a notorious counterfeiter, industrialists (including William Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie), and a Revolutionary War militia captain, among other scary people.
